Tutoring Program

Saint Paul Public School have been in distance-only learning mode since the start of the pandemic in March, and many low-income students are struggling because they lack access to technology, supportive adults in the home, and physical space for learning.

In September, Circles of Support launched a tutoring program in response to the alarming number of students struggling with distance learning. With advice and input from SPPS teachers and administrators and advisors in my nonprofit network, we hired three hourly, college-aged tutors and, through teacher referrals, enrolled four low-income students in need of support.

We currently have a third-grader, two fifth-graders, and a seventh-grader attending tutoring from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Monday – Friday, and are in the process of recruiting additional students.

Through generous in-kind donations, our tutors and students have office space where they can work in a Covid-compliant, quiet environment with high-speed Internet and other accommodations that facilitate learning.

Our administrative support and fundraising work are donated in-kind. The program’s only expenses are $15/hour for the three tutors, who are gaining valuable professional and leadership experience. However, those costs do add up to approximately $900/week. Please consider a tax-deductible gift to the tutoring program.
